I have an issue when I subscribe a mod from Workshop it doesn't initiate the download. If it does initiate it, it shows up in downloads but doesn't progress at all. If I restart Steam the download is gone and nothing happens. I have created 'mod' directory into my /documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings 2/ and I'm sure that I have read and write permissions there as well. what if i am not using steam to download the mod what if it moddb or others were would the descriptor.mod go After you unpacked the zip or rar file, you move the modname folder and modname.mod file into Documents/Paradox interactive/CK2/mod. I have a bunch of previously downloaded workshop mods that show up and work in the launcher, but I just downloaded Arumba's mod pack and none of them show up. Previously what's worked is waiting a few minutes and restarting, but it's been nearly and hour now. Activate "Enable cloud sync.." in properties for CK2. Steamorkshop mods also sometimes only show up after you had started and quit the game after suscribing. Might be people start the game before the mod had finished downloading. Might be, but i have similar experiences with the workshop..
The only way to download and install mods for the standalone version is to get them from the downloads section of the Klei forums. Here's a handy how-to for installing mods from the Klei forums. If the mod is only available on Steam and not on the Klei forums, you may have to contact the mod creator and ask if he or she can put it on our forums.

Then place the .mod file and mod folder with the same name in: *Drive Letter*(Usually C) :\Users\ *Your user name* \Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\mod\ (If such a folder does not exist, create it yourself)
If I launch Steam, and go to the Store (e.g look at the summer specials) and then launch CIV, the mods disappear. If I make sure that Steam has not yet been started and then launch CIV, steam starts up as part of the process to start CIV, but the mods do appear.

Note that the game might appear to be frozen or laggy at launch after I am also having the same problem. The mod downloaded but I when I click the check box on the AGOT mod it doesn't check the box.
